Why are there two tension springs on the Joy?

We include two springs so that when plying, the brake band will flex rather than pull against a fixed point (tension knob). Folk have generally found it harder to treadle when plying and two springs seem to make it easier.
There isn’t much room for both springs on the Joy but with a bit of care it can be done. Of course you are welcome to remove one spring if it makes it easier for you. Also please note there are two pilot holes in the front for the screw eye. You can choose which side you want to have the tension knob with the screw eye and threading hook on the opposite side
